Two members of the English Department of IES L'Eliana attend the TeCoLa Seminar on Gamified Intercultural Telecollaboration for Foreign Language Learning at the University of Roehampton, in London

Inmaculada Martín and Ana María Dorado

Last Saturday 9th of September, two members of the English Department, Inmaculada Martín and Ana María Dorado, attended the TeCoLa Seminar at the University of Roehampton, in London.

We had been invited to this first TeCoLa Conference/Workshop by our ex-coordinator in the Spanish cluster of the TILA project, Sabela Melchor-Couto (*). And we were delighted to attend it face to face.

The Seminar, which focused on telecollaboration, gamification and virtual worlds for language learning and teaching, was aimed at secondary school and further education Modern Languages teachers. This event was funded by the European Commission and it was free of charge for all participants.

In July 2016, the European Commission accepted their proposal to fund a follow-up of the work undertaken in the TILA project on the use of telecollaboration for language learning and teaching. This new project, called TeCoLa, will run until 2019 and it focuses on gamification and virtual worlds.

The conference/workshop took place at the  University  of Roehampton on Saturday 9th September from 9.30 to 13.30. The event was also live streamed, so those who couldn't travel to Roehampton on that date were also able to follow the conference through their YouTube channel and to ask questions via chat. However, the hands-on workshop were only run for the face-to-face conference and were replaced with additional presentations for the audience following them online.

Participants could register for both modes of attendance at And the event took place in Chapman Hall, in Queen’s Building. You can see the programme in the posters attached.

This conference/workshop was a good opportunity to meet the whole TeCoLa team, to learn more about the tasks that will be implemented with the students in TeCoLa and how gamification and virtual worlds can be used for language learning.
